The use of compost in agricultural applications will improve the overall health and long-term productivity of soils.

Organic and sustainable farming sites in particular see the benefits of using compost for reducing the use of chemical fertilisers and improving soil health, but its use is not exclusive to this agricultural sector.

Compost is generally used in the production of higher value crops, and where adding an immense of organic material to light or sandy soils is required.

Compost possesses the ability to improve crop yield and or improve the size and quality of the produce.

Agricultural applications for compost

  • Arable Agriculture - Compost is especially beneficial to clayey soils that are difficult to work into a seedbed, and for light soils that are low in organic matter and/or potassium.
  • Root Crops & Vegetables - Root crops are typically grown in lighter soil that is particularly responsive to the nutrients contained in the organic matter within compost.
  • Grassland - Adding compost to grassland areas is an excellent way of boosting the nutrients required for optimum root growth.
  • Established Root Crops - When a deep compost mulch is applied onto rows of established fruit (either top fruit or soft fruit), nutrients are washed down into the soil and weeds are suppressed.
  • Hothouse crop media component.
